10 August 2007 - The Czech antitrust office has approved French dairy firm Lactalis' acquisition of a majority stake in Moravskoslezske Mlekarny and its subsidiary Mlekarna Kunin, reports the local business press.
FLEXNEWS had announced the Lactalis deal in early July.
The office said that Lactalis’ purchase of the Czech dairies will not lead to a monopoly as it has rivals. The new group will boost its position mainly in the cream and sour milk products markets, added the press reports.
In 2006, Mlekarna Kunin processed 100 million litres of milk and generated sales worth Kc 1.9 billion (about 66 million euro). The company employs 300 people. Mlekarna Klatovy, with 200 staff, generated sales worth over Kc 1 billion last year.
Lactalis expects its turnover to amount to 9 billion euro (over Kc 250 billion) this year.
