14 January 2008 – Soft drinks maker Britvic has announced that it will close its Cork plant next year, according to local media reports.

Daily News Alerts

Production will be transferred from the Little Island plant outside Cork to the group’s Dublin facility, for which a 7.6 million euro ($11.3 million) upgrade was already planned. The upgrade will now allow the Dublin plant to cater for the increase in production resulting from the transfer.

Britvic cited market conditions, need for heavy investments at the Little Island plant and a desire to achieve economies of scale as reasons behind the decision to close the plant, which produces Pepsi, Club Orange and 7-Up.

Some 60 plant workers will lose their job as a result of the closure.
