Yancheng, Jiangsu, China, July 2, 2008 - Royal DSM N.V., a leading Life Sciences and Material Sciences company, has announced that Dafeng DESANO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is to start production in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, as a result of a collaboration between DSM Nutritional Products and Shanghai Desano Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd. The company will produce biotin.
Dafeng DESANO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is located in Dafeng Ocean Comprehensive Economic Development District in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. With over RMB 100 million of investment, this production base has become the biggest biotin production facility in the world. It has been invested and constructed by Shanghai DESANO Pharmaceutical Holding Co., Ltd, with leading chemical synthesis biotin technology jointly developed by DSM and DESANO. It will mainly supply DSM affiliates worldwide, and the production capacity is estimated to be around 60 tons in 2009. The new biotin has been created using the highest technological standards with the most efficient processes, while respecting state-of-the-art global environmental standards.

Biotin is a kind of soluble B group vitamin with sulphur. It is also named coenzyme R as a coenzyme relevant to carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolizing. Every live cell contains biotin as minim growing factor, which is an important coenzyme for lipid metabolizing and carboxylic reactions, acting as a nutrient necessary for normal growth and the health of skin and bone marrow.
