New York, 20 August 2008 - Food distribution outfit Sysco Corp denied that it had agreed to launch a food business venture with Dezina Marketing – directly contradicting a statement made by Dezina earlier this week.
Sysco dismissed a statement from Dezina which said the two companies would begin an online grocery delivery service to residential customers.
Sysco does deliver food to Dezina-owned outlets, which provide food and meals to the business community.
In its statement on Monday, Dezina claimed the two companies “are developing an interactive, virtual grocery shopping website that will simulate an actual grocery shopping experience”. It also quoted Sysco President Keith Shapiro as saying the business would help cut food costs for US consumers.
However, Sysco said the Dezina statement was not true adding “quotes attributed to Keith Shapiro, president of SYSCO's operating company in Baltimore, Maryland, were not reviewed or approved by Mr. Shapiro and information describing SYSCO and its financial performance was outdated or inaccurate.”
