Chongqing, August 25 2008 – DSM, the world's leading company in life sciences and materials sciences, today announced the establishment of its Chongqing Office. The office will help DSM promote performance materials, build a stronger relationship with clients in central and western China, and reinforce its investment in western China to improve its research and development abilities. These moves all aim to serve the company's desire to complete its strategic expansion into the western China market, and support sustainable development with the opening of the new office.
In 1999, DSM opened an office in Chengdu, which mainly oversees promotion and partnerships for its nutritional products in central and western China. DSM is now showing the unshakable confidence it has long possessed in China's domestic market with the establishment of the Chongqing Office - DSM’s second office in western China. Supported by steady growth in central and eastern China, DSM’s strategic shift to target western China will enhance customer service through its improved sales network in the region.
Jiang Weiming, president of DSM China, said, “The western China market is very important for DSM, and the Chongqing Office was established in a move to allow us to pursue market-oriented growth and innovation in the region. The move is not only one of the three main driving forces behind our strategic goal of ‘Vision 2010’, but also a fulfillment of DSM’s long-term promise to the western China market. We will spare no efforts to advance both DSM’s sustainable development in China and western China’s capabilities in scientific research and development.”
The high quality of natural resources and energy reserves, excellent investment environment, and considerable market potential in western China laid the foundation for DSM’s further investment in sustainable development. DSM, a long-time advocate of open innovation, plans to engage itself in building comprehensive, co-operative ties with local research institutes and companies through the Chongqing Office, and to utilize various forms of open innovation -- such as venture capital and new business development -- to promote the white biotechnology industry in western China, providing sustainable drive for energy shortage easing and environmental protection initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Chongqing Office will boost DSM’s development of local innovation capabilities in western China. With the belief that quality personnel is the key to corporate success, DSM will capitalize on its close ties with western China’s scientific research institutes -- including those in Chongqing -- to not only improve local research and development capabilities, but also recruit and train local talent. These efforts fully reflect DSM’s continued interest in western China and its constant commitment to sustainable development.
