6 Oct - Kraft Foods is expected to announce several hundred job losses this week in its North American operations as part of a company-wide cost-cutting exercise.
Company spokesman Mike Mitchell was quoted as saying the job cuts would amount to less than 1% of the company’s North American work force, and would be spread out geographically to soften their impact.
Kraft is bidding to improve its efficiency and “unfortunately some positions are being eliminated,” said Mr Mitchell.
The food giant also announced last week it is to close its coffee plant in Vancouver with the loss of 30 posts.
The decision to shut the site, which supplies coffee to the food service industry, had been a strategic one said its Canadian spokeswoman. The consolidation was taking place as the company sought to use its resources in the most efficient way, she added.
