Oct 7 - Burger King Holdings Inc plans to open six to twenty "Whopper Bar" restaurants worldwide over the next year and a half, with the first to open in February next year, the Wall Street Journal said quoting a company executive.

The company, which first unveiled the concept in March, is in negotiations for 20 to 25 Whopper Bar sites around the world, including Europe, Latin America and Asia, Russ Klein, president of global marketing, strategy and innovation, told the Journal.

Prices could be higher at the smaller, trendier restaurants that cater to fans of its Whopper hamburgers in space-crunched areas such as airports, casinos or train stations, the paper said.

Beer could be added to the Whopper Bar menu, which will have only a third, or fewer, items of those sold in a typical Burger King, the paper quoted Klein as saying.

Burger King could not be immediately reached for comment by Reuters.
