8 Oct - The Vietnamese Government is to temporarily stop production at Vedan's monosodium glutamate factory in a bid to halt the company polluting the nearby river with untreated sewage, according local sources
The Ministry of Natural Resources has asked regional authorities in Dong Nai to ensure operations at the factory are suspended until an appropriate system for treating sewage is installed.
The government is also reported to be taking action against the company for releasing untreated waste-water from its plant into the same river, citing it as playing a major role in effectively killing a 12-km stretch of the waterway.
