Mexico City, Oct 27 - Mexico's retailers group ANTAD on Monday cut its view of its members same-store sales growth for 2008 as Mexican shoppers struggle with high food and energy prices and families receive less money from relatives working abroad.
ANTAD said it now expects same-store sales to contract by 1 percent, compared with a previous forecast of 1 percent growth.
Same-store sales are those recorded at stores that have been open for at least 12 months and are used to measure retailers performance.
Department and specialty stores are likely to get hit harder as clients delay discretionary spending on products like clothing or electronics. Supermarket chains are expected to weather the financial downturn slightly better, according to ANTAD forecast.
Leading retailers Wal-Mart de Mexico, Soriana, and Comercial Mexicana are among ANTAD's members.
