13 November 2008 - Leading sugar producer Tereos is reportedly going to close its Beghin-Say sugar refinery in Nantes by the end of 2009.
The site has a workforce of 173 and refines 600 tons of sugar each day.
The company is expected to propose employees positions at its nine other French sugar plants.
It is understood that Tereos' sugar refinery activities have been negatively impacted by the European sugar reform and the Commission's decision to stop aids for refiners.
Tereos is expected to report a loss of 10 million euro in its upcoming results statement ending 30 September 2008.
